It’s flubber feeding time! Over the past few days at KIS3 something big, yellow and hungry for snow, has been growing in size – our flubbers. They’re a crucial step in our efforts to access sediment below the ice shelf – providing the water we need to start hot water drilling.

The Beyond EPICA ice core drilling has finally reached the bedrock at a depth of 2800 m: this is a huge success for our project and for ice core science! We have strong indications that 1.2 million years of climate record are stored in the uppermost 2480 m of ice. 📸©PNRA/IPEV

After over 30 years of service on the Antarctic continent, the venerable Ivan "The Terrabus" is headed for a well earned retirement. Ivan shuttled thousands of people (including myself) back and forth between McMurdo station and the nearby skiways.
