🐠 Fish are absolutely necessary for health. How do we know that? Study after study has documented the fish/coral connection. Here’s just one summary of that important relationship:

Triggerfish are found in tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. There are about 40 species of this vibrant fish, which are the Balistidae family. Most prefer the shallow coastal waters and coral reefs.

Today's fish is another Anthiadinae (lots of pink fish in this subfamily), but this one is special. It's a yet to be described species of Odontanthias from central Pacific reefs. I photographed this one in Micronesia at about 140m depth.

Why do warmer waters have us worried about ? Increased ocean temperatures can cause coral bleaching, a disruption of the relationship between the coral host and their microscopic algal symbionts that provide the coral with food!

Coral reefs are incredible climate change superheroes!

They absorb and store carbon dioxide, acting as natural carbon sinks.

By regulating pH levels and reducing ocean acidity, they create a thriving environment for marine life.

Why divers should NOT touch wrecks... 🪸👉 Wrecks become artificial reefs over time, providing habitats for various marine organisms. Disturbing these ecosystems by touching wrecks can disrupt the delicate balance and harm the diverse marine life 🐠

Over two-thirds of corals have been lost because of human activity. We won’t accept losing the remaining corals. We will push the boundaries of what’s possible & the lives depending on reefs. 💙🪸🌊
