A1) I’ve been doing morning workouts since we returned from Christmas break. If I do it in the morning, I don’t have to worry about what may come up after school to disrupt my schedule. I also feel so much better! #PrincipalOfficeHours

Q2) I try to stop by every classroom first thing in the morning to do a quick check-in with teachers. How are you? Do you need anything? It’s such a small gesture that goes a long way, and it takes less than 30 min to make it around the whole school. #PrincipalOfficeHours

A3) I’m uplifted daily when I see teachers jumping in to help each other and me cover duties and everything else as we deal with high staff absences. As tired as everyone is, they keep doing what needs to be done to make sure our students are safe! #PrincipalOfficeHours

A4) We talk about the importance of making connections. When virtual, we encourage teachers to offer live sessions that allow time to check-in, read a story, do an SEL lesson, etc. We want to move beyond clicking on assignments. #PrincipalOfficeHours

A5) An effective agenda. If you look at your agenda, and there’s no new learning, and it’s just announcements, that staff meeting should have been an email. Create a template that shows the learning experiences for the meeting. A good template is a must! #PrincipalOfficeHours

A6) Communicate often, by any means necessary-Phone calls, positive cards, messages, car rider line. Find ways to connect, whatever it takes. Remember, parents need to hear the good things that are happening, not just the discipline issues. #PrincipalOfficeHours

A7) We spend the first two weeks focusing on SEL and introducing or reviewing our SEL curriculum, Zones of Regulation. No new learning takes place, we simply focus on building relationships, learning our students’ needs, and teaching how to self- regulate. #PrincipalOfficeHours

A8) This too shall pass! We must continue supporting academic needs in meaningful ways. We can’t let Ss slip through the cracks, or we will continue to see “learning loss” struggles year after year. Our Ss need us to focus on the right work, the essentials. #PrincipalOfficeHours

When students start the year below grade level, they must improve multiple-years in one school year to catch up. Have your kids needing Tier 3 support improved at least one year so far this year? If not, what do you plan to do different? More of the same is rarely the answer.

Check out this great article on building community by Principal Kafele. He shares his experience and reflections on transforming culture and engaging staff in difficult dialogue. So many gems! 💎💎. learningforward.org/journal/buildi…

Here’s that 🔥 PD with Principal Kafele you didn’t know you needed this morning! I’ll be watching this again. Rahh dropped so many gems I couldn’t process them all in one setting. If Principal Rahh is not on your radar, he should be. His work is relevance in action.

Today, our teams took a deeper dive into our essential standards. We were reminded that creating a guaranteed and viable curriculum is an on-going process, not a checklist of standards. Keep pushing teams, there is power in the process! Mike Mattos Dr. Anthony Muhammad Solution Tree

Ensuring high levels of learning for all is not just for the students. We want to ensure our teachers are learning at high levels as well. Today, our teachers observed colleagues at another elementary in our district and then shared best practices during their debrief.
