Untuk memahami kebobrokan rakan KKM, david harvey mengajar kita tentang 4 elemen neoliberalism 🧵 1. privatisation - "corporatization, commodification and privatization of hitherto public assets has been a signal feature of the neoliberal project" justassociates.org/wp-content/upl…

Perkhidmatan awam bukan untuk buat untung. Awam = rakyat. You deliver services, don’t have to monetise it. Kalau point ni pun masih tak boleh nak setuju, dah boleh agak kenapa KKM buat benda merapu.

Dulu aku pun termakan hujah “kita perlukan teknokrat dalam pentadbiran” sampailah aku faham bahawa teknokrat tanpa etika dan kemanusiaan tak ada gunanya.

Billionaires do not "create value in society." They do not create anything. They EXPLOIT existing resources including labor. And -- while most billionaires can't actually even run a business -- government is not a business. It has different goals, stakeholders and strategies.

in class this week I summarized Saïd's "Orientalism" by comparing it to AI: "you know how AI content is getting worse because it's now being trained based on its own output? that's how the West creates stereotypes about the Orient and teaches itself about its own superiority."

the maddening discourse about scholarships muncul lagi & i'm reminded of this recent read. interesting observations of the different types of (middle class) Malays but i wish more attention was paid to class as an important facet of racial life...

I think it’s sad, bordering senseless, for drivers plying the JB to SG route daily to see the prosperity of one of the world’s wealthiest cities through the windscreen…knowing that with their RM2k salaries, there’s nothing in the city that they can take part in, or afford.

"its not intellectually stimulating, so its not worth doing. i'm above working on this" is a trap that smart people seem to have a very, very easy time falling into

"Amid all the talk... one solution remains curiously absent: progressive taxation of the ultra-rich. Malaysia is not a poor country. The problem is not a lack of resources, but it is the lack of political courage to tax accumulated wealth and the ultra-rich."

Got the opportunity to present my doctoral research a few weeks ago. Covered the background, framework, and some preliminary themes. The first time in a while that I took part in an academic conference, and enjoyed the experience. #Throwback #Phd

I have never felt so shaken. Children are dying of hunger. Falling one after another, like petals of a dying flower. Under our watch. How do you sleep, Presidents, Foreign Ministers, political leaders, diplomats, civil servants - doing nothing to stop Israel’s starvation

Major new study finds that 4-day workweek (with no reduction in pay) leads to: --> higher productivity --> more revenue --> Less stress, fewer feelings of burnout, and improved overall health and well-being.

Child-raising, caretaking, homemaking, cooking, cleaning are not easy. It’s not the soft life. And you all have my respect for doing it full time. Tapi people dont see what you do. Socso pun takde. Ye ada yang hidup senang. Well then. They’re privileged. Tu je.

“Kerja” is in quotes because we usually think bila benda tu tak berbayar = bukan kerja. Ada jugak SAHM grow their own food, ajar anak ulangkaji instead of sending to tuition, etc etc. Tapi tak nampak pun as them “working”. Padahal you can’t do what they do.

when Bourdain said free Palestine and called out the racist vilification of Palestinians by the media class that paved the way for the genocide: "The world has visited many terrible things on the Palestinian people, none more shameful than robbing them of their basic humanity."
