Absolutely gutted to hear the news. The town and the workers deserve so much better. I'll be in touch with unions and community organisations in the coming days.

Successive Governments should have taken action to provide a transition that put workers first. Grangemouth is now paying the price of that inaction. We need to see plans come forward to support workers. I'll be back in my community later today to speak to those affected.

The Easter bank holidays will give workers more time with their families and friends, or simply to relax. That should be normal rather than being an exception. The impact of normalising a 4 day week could be transformative for workers’ rights and for building a better future!

When the Scottish Greens were in government I tripled the funding for Unions Into Schools. Great to speak to Terry at #STUC25 & see so many reps volunteering to help deliver the programme locally. Young people deserve to learn about their rights in the workplace before they get there

This is devastating for the workers and the community of Grangemouth. We should have seen our Governments doing more. It is deeply disappointing that Labour have not stepped in to protect workers or to future proof jobs in the same way that they have with steelworks down south.

Workers today continue to face threats on all fronts; ongoing structural racism and the rise of the far right, ever growing inequality and the climate crisis. This May Day, remember collective power is our greatest strength.

Why do we celebrate May Day? Because rights we take for granted - maternity pay, the right to unionise, a minimum wage - were fought for, and won, by working people. But even these rights are at threat - there is still so much to do. Remember the dead & fight for the living!
