Here in the SBC, we have many needs. Among them is a revival of decency, charity and class concerning how we speak to or about fellow believers. I pray that God will raise up statesmen and give them a voice.

I’m really regretting the sweet tea so close to bedtime. My brain has decided that sleep is not necessary, and springing forward brings early mornings for this children’s minister.

It is never helpful to remind one grieving of what they have not lost or of the fact that it could have been worse.  We do not grieve what we have but what we do not have. We compare our loss to the good we had, not to the bad that never happened. The empty space is that - empty.

I’m completely sick of the “If-your-conservatism-isn’t-expressed-the-same-way-my-conservatism-is-expressed-then-you-are-actually-a-liberal” mantra that is currently being espoused in certain segments of the SBC. This view is divisive, disingenuous, uncharitable & unChristlike.

This is a golden moment for us as Christians to model our faith during this COVID-19 crisis, because we’re the only Bible that some people will ever read. People who don’t know the Lord are watching us. So let’s share the hope we have as followers of Jesus.

My prayer is that we will allow room for personal growth as we look at the world around us. In a world where everyone’s past can be found easily, may we look for the growth and fruit before pointing fingers.

We can thoughtfully and graciously disagree with other believers, but cheap shots, cheering decline or callous mocking only confirms the worlds suspicion that we are devoid of counter-cultural love.

Pray for the people of Puerto Rico as #TropicalStormLaura threatens to bring heavy rain and winds over the weekend. We recently trained 35 pastors in disaster response to prepare for storm season. Pray specifically for their continued resilience and leadership through the storm.

Pray for people in the Caribbean as #TropicalStormLaura passes over the islands. We are monitoring the storm, and Southern Baptists are ready to mobilize and meet immediate needs.

I’m going to vote and encourage everyone else to. I’ll be ready for every good work like the Bible teaches (Titus 3:1). However, I will do so without any fear b/c in redemptive history no governing office was ever seated higher than my God! (Psalm 22:8)

Reached for my phone early this morning to see if it was time to get up and saw the news about President Trump and First Lady Melania testing positive for COVID. Immediately went to my face in prayer. This is not partisan. This is Christian. God, help us in these difficult days.

Not only should all Christians be praying for peace, especially today, but we should also serve as peacemakers by promoting, modeling and proclaiming our unity in Christ across racial, cultural and class lines. God has called us to the ministry of reconciliation. 2 Cor. 5:16-21

I took Dr. Holcomb my first semester at NOBTS right after lunch. I learned so much about Christian history from him, but was also touched by his example as a husband.

I can’t imagine what Hank Aaron went through in his lifetime. He had every right to be angry or militant.....but never was! He spread his grace on everything and every one he came in contact with. Epitome of class and integrity. RIP Henry Aaron! #HammerinHank
