It feels like a really long time since a book absolutely bashed me in the gut. Maybe I'm just old and jaded or maybe I'm reading the wrong books, but if I wanted to be victimised the way Mercedes Lackey used to victimise me, what #BookRecommendations would you have? #amreading

#fantasyindiesjune happy or sad endings? Prefer happy but love a good sad ending. The important thing to me is that the ending feels meaningful and earned, and fits the character arcs. Don't like feeling manipulated or pandered to in the way stakes are raised or resolved.

#fantasyindiesjune missed favourite bookish couple, but Sorcha and Red from Daughter of the Forest are a fav. Woman on a (magical) mission and man who is falling in love with her along for the ride trying to help without knowing what on earth is going on. Niche, but great. 💓

#FantasyIndiesJune lessons learned - a big lesson is to be parsimonious in where you introduce complexity to world building. Ppl like richness and novelty in the world... however e.g. niche succession rules are fun to write but hard to sustain and confusing for readers. 😂
