Budget has £2.6 billion of capital funding for new school places for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Whilst the world is moving in an inclusive direction, we will build more separate provision. Why not invest in strengthening the mainstream?

“The failings in the SEND system aren’t solely down to funding. We also see a widespread culture in local authorities of seeing parents and families as adversaries rather than allies. Too many local authorities put unlawful obstacles in the way, rather than working with families"

I have typed and deleted a message several times. I'm angry. And tweeting upset isn't my thing. But... The SEND funding changes taking place currently in Leicester City is going to have a massive negative effect on so many SEND children across the city. #TooAngryToTweet

Behaviour is learned. In the same way as Maths or English. Our job is not to punish bad behaviour. Our job is to enable children to learn and to improve.

When thinking about options of support for children it can be helpful to think 'would I want that though?' While supports that are fixes or solutions are attractive in their simplicity often humans just need time and relationships.. this is how we get where we need to get to.

We are kicking off our webinar series from next week! I’ll be opening with information about preparing for adulthood. We never charge for our webinars, so that we can ensure all parents have access to correct legal information 🙌🏼 Hopefully see many of you lovely parents there 🤞🏼

Educators please don't design an extra assignment to accommodate and include students with disabilities, just design the main assignment so that it does not exclude them in the first place. Common sense when you think about it #UDL #inclusion

Sadly we now have a deep culture of separating learners within the English education system. We need a fundamental rethink based on the principles of inclusion and equity, following the UNESCO mantra ‘Every learner matters and matters equally’. theguardian.com/education/2021…

I'm sorry but if the DfE and Ofsted create an atmosphere where children are asked to do formal learning younger and younger it's inevitable that some children will struggle. Provision needs to be flexible to meet needs. theguardian.com/education/2021…

Mark Anon Magdalena Blackhurst navyeyelasH Special Needs Jungle Barney Angliss Matthew Keer Well EP reports play the most significant part in tribunals and most of them are found inadequate when put alongside an independent EP report. Their salaries are from the same people who don’t want to provide the kids. And I have NEVER seen a statement of truth in hundreds.

amp.theguardian.com/education/2024… Why are children with SEND still being excluded because their needs are not being met? It’s disability discrimination.
