Liam C It was something, I think when I as a teenager mate. They really didn’t like the nickname “Mackems” and did a fan vote on what their “official” nickname should be. Guessing Black Cats won because of the historical name. I remember Mackem fans not liking it either.

Chris ⚫⚪🇵🇸 Dan Craig Hope That's bs and you know it, you aren't a Newastle fan either, Chris letting someone take the mick out of the club, go down the road to the Mackems.

Roker Report JP Look it isn't my team you support them and at the end of the day fans know their club better than outsiders. I was just giving my mates opinion who are mackems and think he's a bit overrated cause he's passionate and likeable. If you think he's good enough then fair enough

You Kipper How much of north eastern identity do you think is geordies and mackems regarding themselves respectively as authentic denizens of the area?

Ben Jacobs Alex Crook ⚽️🎙 The mackems will be against this as they all hate the so called Saudi sports washing machine and surely can’t accept a footballer into the club who’s taken money from apparent human rights abusers, right?

Morgan Wiley Alfie Callum Fowler Fairs if you think that but ask anyone that’s been to Sunderland and they’ll say Mackems are some of the most humble down to earth people in the country, can’t see a world where we stay up comfortable but if we were to go down and back up I could defo see it more likely then
