Just got some early evidence from Dylan Tovitz showing that extreme arm angles got more whiffs at home in 2025 (where the away team has no access to Trajekt machines and their ability to preview release point information). Trey Yesavage at home again tonight.

The horse is out of the barn, but sports media needs to be about more than telling fans they should be miserable. One team wins per league per year. It is unlikely to be your team. If you cannot enjoy the sport because of that, sports isn't for you.

Amazing survivor, even as a carbon copy: letter from Detroit Tigers' manager Bill Armour to Ty Cobb informing him that his rights have been purchased from Augusta in the South Atlantic (Sally) League. Dated August 25, 1905, 17 days after Ty's mother had shot his father to death.

I don't know if Cal Raleigh got snubbed for AL C GG, but I do know that not enough people know how incredible Dillon Dingler, Carlos Narváez, and Alejandro Kirk were behind the plate this year.

One thing that I can't remember if I've said explicitly: Since working on modeling pitch detection I've found that current Stuff and Pitching models do a good job at "understanding" tunneling and deception at the population level. Tunneling and deception metrics thus, one, help

describe some of what the models are "seeing" beyond just raw stuff, and two need to not be pitcher-agnostic to add predictive value to these types of models. IOW: Is this pitch more or less deceptive than expected due to who threw it and what their arsenal looks like?

The LCS started in 1969. Of 224 teams to participate in it since then, Milwaukee's .136 hitting BABIP is ... 224th. Or last. Bad luck, good defense, sure, anything can happen in 3 games. But also shows the perils of relying on batted ball luck to score runs.

Hearing Norm Macdonald's story about this game is one of the reasons I don't really bet on sports anymore. "This is bad because Bob Costas knows everything."

Tom Thress writes, re: Ohtani. I was curious how many games Retrosheet has in which a pitcher struck out 10 and hit more homers than he allowed hits: on 6/6/1921, Bill Gatewood fanned 10 and hit a homer (first no-hitter in Negro National League). SABR retrosheet.org/NegroLeagues/b…
