Carnethy, as well as lending its name to a local hill running club Carnethy HRC, is from the Old Welsh "Carneddau" - 'cairns, piles of small stones.' It is cognate with the Carneddau range of hills in North Wales, and appears aptly named in the Pentland Hills case. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿⛰️⛰️⛰️

A crisp February day near West Linton. This very straight looking track looks like an old railway alignment but it's originally the course of a Roman road running between Crawford and Elginhaugh forts, roughly following the A702 route today.

10 February 2021, when the hills were bathed in fresh, deep snow and it seemed like the Pentlands could be anywhere on earth.
