NEW: Florida regulators are supposed to learn from insurance company failures. Failures could offer clues about FL's insurance crisis. But a new report about one insolvency is just 4 pages. No forensic accountants were hired. No analysis done. 🧵 tampabay.com/news/florida-p…

This is part of a larger trend in Tallahassee. State lawmakers have done virtually no studies of the insurance crisis. They ask no hard questions. They've held hardly any hearings.

Another lesson that could be learned from these insolvency reports: What could regulators have done differently? As Doug Quinn of the American Policyholder Association noted, Florida Office of Insurance Regulation went 7 years without doing a financial exam of Sawgrass. The law requires 1 every 5 years.
