From Grenfell and the Post Office inquiries, we can see that government by ministers drawn from parliament and advised by the civil service, who themselves have an aversion to bringing up sticky issues to their ministers, just does not work.

What Grenfell shows perhaps is that going through the proper channels to get safety issues (in this case building regulations) addressed depends on a functioning executive to address those concerns rather than the usual politicking from ministers and their aides?

True story: I caught the bus replacement from Dalmuir to Central for the first service of the day at some ungodly hour to travel further South. The bus driver said I was the first person he had collected from Dalmuir that whole week. Just glad he turned up.
