I support pathways to research in AI for young people. However, to echo others: I think the likely outcome of this no-feedback high school submission track will be to give participation prizes for well-resourced high school students. To add on:

Would be great if there were AI community awards for people who are great *collaborators*, as opposed to so many focusing on who's the best *leader*. Leader focus fuels territorialism, which ultimately ends up pushing out people with tech-marginalized characteristics.

100% true, but a lot of 'events' that sound trite to seasoned researchers are someone's first step.

'Research jam', our recurring event that features short presentations from *anyone in the world*, just had its 3rd anniversary yesterday and about to welcome the 20th occurrence this Wednesday.

I took a look at the speaker's email group -- it has 72 members. A pleasant shock.

8 years later, I'm still having nightmares about failing grad school—unable to find an internship, unable to publish. So relieved this morning waking up to the universe that I've already graduated, got a job and everything.

But, is the dream me still stuck in the hell universe?

Existential reflection on every deadline: Is my supreme skill and tremendous effort of fitting every paper to the brim of 9 pages really benefiting society? Could I have devoted that part of my brain to better things?

Does the loss ever truly converge in LLM pretaining?
