Many apart from the industry itself have questioned the model but have been dismissed. It now seems the industry didn’t know that conifers grow to 30m & have short roots. Leaving them vulnerable to windblow & power line damage. Who knew?

Let’s be clear. When there are profits the are tax free. When there are losses the industry expects a Govt. bailout. More of privatising the profits & nationalising the losses 😂

It’s even worse. Ireland’s forestry industry has nothing to do with trees, and hasn’t for years. It’s all about tax breaks & premiums for investors & pension funds. The trees are only a byproduct. Everyone else looses.

What most people forget is that the Irish Government Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine & Forest service committed to NOT planting on certain peatlands in order to secure European Commission state aid exemption for the taxpayer funds paid out in the current forestry programme. rte.ie/radio/podcasts…

What plans have Cavan County Council & Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine drawn up for west Cavan given that lots of families are potentially at risk from fire due to poor afforestation policies?

It’s no wonder when the paper of record links a photo of conifer forestry with any story regarding carbon emissions. Irish forestry is a carbon emitter 🤔

And do you know what ESB Networks is right. What isn't storm proof is all the cumulative plantation forestry licensed by Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Healy-Rae which is falling on the lines. Where were all the major outages? where there is too much 🌲🌲 Michael Healy-Rae needs to sort it now.
