Day 14 of no power. New restore time of Friday night. If we lived in Ballsbridge and not Ballyconnell, would we be 14 days without power? Driving to the top of a hill this morning to record an Irish Farmers Journal podcast!!And then we wonder why young people are leaving rural Ireland.

Two weeks later ++ some of the sitka spruce is removed. Just enough to get the power lines up and power back into homes near Drumkeerin #Leitrim Is the risk to the power lines sorted. Not a chance. Michael Healy-Rae Coillte Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine ESB Networks

See Eamon Ryan thinks we have too many Sitka . We’re posting out his membership application today. Pity him, Pippa Hackett Green Party Ireland didn’t accept this while in Govt.🤔

A real shame Michael Healy-Rae Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon didn't include reps on the taskforce of those most impacted by windblow of recent storms. Communities & citizens groups. As usual €€ interests of 🌲 investors, corporates & industry take precedence agriland.ie/farming-news/i…

Almost a year ago we engaged with Marian Harkin and she asked a Parlimentary question about forestry, ESB lines and windblow ( Storm Isha) Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue responded and left responsibility with both forest owners and also the ESB. oireachtas.ie/en/debates/que…

Same problems back in west Cavan. Road blocked to water treatment plant again. 👇 When will communities get a seat at table? Heard Morning Ireland George Lee talking about storms & planning. Does our voice count? Micheál Martin

Wonder is this pattern continued in Cavan Burren Park Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark ?

@savewestcavan Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Healy-Rae Certainly, and here is one example in #Leitrim 3 of the 4 plots between these two GAEC mapped plots are planted on peatlands. Two government policies at odds with each other. Farmers paying the price for the damage by the timber industry. Michael Healy-Rae

What most people forget is that the Irish Government Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine & Forest service committed to NOT planting on certain peatlands in order to secure European Commission state aid exemption for the taxpayer funds paid out in the current forestry programme. rte.ie/radio/podcasts…

Another taxpayer funded "investment" Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Forest service Michael Healy-Rae up in smoke adding to GHG emissions & particulate pollution. Who will cover the costs? How can insurance companies cover "forestry" now given the windblow & now this? FBD Insurance facebook.com/share/1ChajJox…

What plans have Cavan County Council & Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine drawn up for west Cavan given that lots of families are potentially at risk from fire due to poor afforestation policies?

Mainly plantation 🌲 investors backed by grants, premia & tax breaks from Michael Healy-Rae Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine that is blocking our young people from accessing land to farm in #Leitrim & the west. We need a proper land use plan not just to be a 🌲sacrifice zone leitrimobserver.ie/news/farming--…

This lady & may see the value in the west. They & we don’t believe in the planting with Sitka forestry to the detriment of others. We value people, family, environment & community. Join us & others Save Leitrim Save Kerry

And do you know what ESB Networks is right. What isn't storm proof is all the cumulative plantation forestry licensed by Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Healy-Rae which is falling on the lines. Where were all the major outages? where there is too much 🌲🌲 Michael Healy-Rae needs to sort it now.
