I believe this is so important, I’m tweeting it again: “The great tragedy is the lack of vocational education in schools. Not everybody is designed for the academic. I feel this has been forgotten for a long time.” King Charles III Speaking on BBC’s ‘The Repair Shop’

It’s been a positive start to the new term for the boys in Lexia , with Harry, Damien, Blake and Jasper all receiving certificates for completing the most minutes or achieving the highest streak in the classes this week. Well done to them all. #ReadingMattersatPilton

A special Lexia mention for Sophie and Lindon in Year 7, who have both worked extremely hard this week. Lindon has achieved the highest streak in his class, whilst Sophie completed an outstanding 118 minutes of Lexia. Reading matters at Pilton!

One Year 8 student has found an original way to stop himself crying while cutting onions for a bolognaise sauce in his Food Tech lesson. Great idea Thomas!

We were delighted to welcome 70 Year 6 pupils today when we played host to a Rising Stars in PE basketball workshop.  Lead by Mr Hill and basketball coach Mr Roper, the talented pupils worked on skills and game play, all showing a great deal of effort and enthusiasm.

More success for Isla at the Gliddon & Squire cross-country championship yesterday. The Year 7 student not only took third place in her individual run, but was also a member of the three-girl team who took first place in their group event. Go Isla!

I think that most schools get rewards really wrong; there is a common misunderstanding of what rewards should be for, the rewards that students value, and how students perceive rewards; what follows are my thoughts:

An amazing TCS London Marathon performance once again from Ronnie Richmond last weekend. A former member of our Pilton PE team, Ronnie finished the race in 27th place (out of 48,000 runners) in a time of 2 hours 19 minutes exactly. Super proud of you as always, Ronnie!

1. Just finished Tracey O'Brien ‘School Self-Review’ ready for our SIP visioning day tomorrow. This year, inspired by blogs by Joe Kirby and Matthew Evans, I’ve encouraged thought amongst staff into how we create a SIP that drives meaningful and sustainable improvement in our school.

Wise words Gary Aubin. Really Made me reflect on leadership decisions and wider ‘grouping’ discussions ‘The evidence suggests that groupings should not be fixed in the long-term. The way we allocate groups should not reinforce the idea that intelligence is pre-determined’…

Has anyone done any work on time out card systems in their schools? Or could recommend any reading. I would like to make some changes to how they are used/issued and would be keen to here what ideas are out there…

We're counting down to one of our favourite events in the school calendar. Next Tuesday is European Day of Languages when Y7 students will be enjoying speed-chatting challenges in the Library and we'll all be enjoying the fabulous cakes created for the EDL Cake Competition!

Nigel farage wants you to think that Britain has an immigration problem. It doesn't. Britain had a problem with millionaires hoarding wealth, egged on by politicians and the press. Britain has a problem with racism. Britain has a Nigel Farage MP problem. RT if you agree.
