Zaven Sargsyan I'd also support your general message by saying that blood transfusions don't obviate the need for iron supplementation! The iron in the transfused RBCs isn't available to make new RBCs

Ok but seriously it feels like early Twitter over there and it’s magical. I’m not shutting down here yet but it’s honestly so much better and would be even better with YOU. Yes, YOU. Join us where the skies are 💙🦋

Reminder that the home medications list in the EHR reflects what the patient actually ingests at home in a minority of cases. And it's the latter that matters.

In patients with hyperleukocytosis, the potassium on the BMP can be falsely elevated from cell lysis in the tube. Send a K+ off a stat VBG (the "venous potassium" on this screenshot) to know the real value.

Placing orders in the wrong chart is common. Have you seen/done it? Have you ever seen any safeguards? That didn't quickly become ineffective and infuriating? Any other strategies to avoid, either on a personal or systems level?

Zaven Sargsyan Also, I think I’ve subconsciously trained my eyes to look top left in Epic for a split second prior to placing orders to ensure correct patient. Also, if in the middle of high risk orders, I wait to return the page or answer the call.

Our new paper explores how pass/fail grading has created a "shadow economy of effort," as medical students engage in extracurricular activities to compete for residency positions, often at the expense of clinical skill and well-being. Benjamin Kinnear journals.lww.com/academicmedici…
