Starting the second day of #sipquasars with Manuella Bischetti: low-resolution ALMA observations are needed for detecting quasar outflows at high-z

Madeline Marshall: JWST will enable direct detection of quasar hosts through PSF subtraction! Thorough modelling from the BlueTides sims. #sipquasars

#sipquasars Karna Morey measures the average lifetime of z~6 quasars by stacking their proximity zones. Not enough time to grow?

Huanqing Chen at #sipquasars: The density field surrounding high-z quasars can be recovered from the morphology of their proximity zones!

Fred Davies: The pre-ionisation IGM is accessible through the proximity zones of quasars who turned on recently. Constraints on X-ray heating and alternative dark matters? #sipquasars

Last talk at #sipquasars: Rikako Ishimoto measured the proximity zone sizes of faint high-z quasars. More hints of short average timetimes!

Look I can't find the gif but you know in the Future Echoes episode of Red Dwarf where Lister has to reboot the navicomp and thinks he's gonna die doing it? Actual footage of me submitting merge requests on GitLab

The pandemic sucks but there's something to be said about giving top seminars while secretly surrounded by soda cans and anime figurines

A nice opportunity for the astronomy community to give back to ALMA and support the observatory's integration with the local community! Really hoping it does well gofundme.com/f/a-planetariu…

Paper day! Have you ever seen a rest-frame IR spectrum of a z>7 quasar? No, because this is the first one! JWST/MRS shows us a normal hot dusty torus, and a normal hydrogen BLR. Why don't quasars care whether they are at z=0 or <760Myr after the Big Bang? arxiv.org/abs/2307.14414
