Awadhi language once had its own script - Kaithi. To this day I write Hindi numbers like this. Because my Dadi taught this to me. It is similar to Devanagari. But the number 8 and 9 are different. Notice how अ/आ is written. Old Hindi newspapers followed this script till recently
