Always a treat and delight to read the writings of William Dalrymple … the research, the choice of words, the construct, the essaying is, simply put, fabulous. I have read all his writings that I have been able to lay hands on. Oftentimes several times over. Crafty storytelling.

About time! Getting a visa for travelling to Europe is an ordeal … more so since the pandemic as getting an appointment is like a lottery and the wait to receive the visa is yet uncertain. #Schengen #Visa may soon go digital on a new platform and be procured online.

They very basis of making #travel companies collect #TCS on #tour #packages is unfounded and an exception in this world; only #India does it. Not deferred, TCS (tax collected at source) on travel should be withdrawn and abolished.

No licenses required to play Bollywood music in Bali! In India you need to get #PPL (phonographic Performance Limited), #IPRS (Indian Performing Rights Society) and #Novex (Novex Communication Limited) to play Bollywood music, all of which can amount to ~3 lakhs per event!

Further more: PPL and Novex own a repertoire of sound recordings which they license to users WITHOUT being registered as copyright societies under the Copyright Act, 1957. They charge a license fee for use each time and that is based on a math ₹1.50 per square foot. Go figure.
