Marr has computation, algorithm, and mechanism. Tinbergen got evo, devo, goal, and mechanism. But whats the name for 'I just fit something and great R2. Many papers do it. It does not fit into Marr nor Tinbergen. How is it called? Nihilism?

We are excited to share our new article now out in @commsbio:

How oscillatory (or “rhythmic”) are neuronal oscillations? We developed a new way to measure rhythmicity and found that is well delineated in both brain anatomy and oscillation frequencies!

occasionally this paper makes the rounds, & while I am definitely a fan of catchy titles, this feels too simplifying. 1) only ERP-related metrics are tested & 2) comparison of preprocessing methods would be much better if ground truth was known ➡️ why not do a simulation study?

New results now live! Most exciting is Brendan Harris mouse application.
We find that brain areas higher in the visual hierarchy are closer to (in a way that cannot be detected with existing measures) 😄🐭⬇️

Biscione et al. (2024) develop tools and image datasets to evaluate DNNs across 30 visual psychological phenomena, covering things like Weber's law, crowding, visual illusions, shape recognition, and much more.

Iris' work has shown me angles from which to tackle questions of mind and brain that were unfamiliar to me during my studies and subsequent training. Dabble I'm glad I did.

So happy to see this EEG study out! 🧠⚡️

We were surprised to see that, in biasing contexts, the word N1 showed a pattern seemingly inconsistent with a simple predictive coding model
