You might like Nightingales singing in their breeding range , but wait until you see them after their post-breeding moult in non-breeding range. AI delivering ornithological insights as ever 😱

Dusk bathing by understorey birds is a familiar sight along tropical rainforest streams. I think bathing in dim light is a predator-avoidance strategy, but it's interesting to see the widespread pattern of bathtime cooling – possibly a thermoregulatory behaviour too.

🚨New stuff in American Ornithological Society! We use Bayesian multi-species mark-recapture (CMR) models to assess avian demographic rates across an elevational gradient in Honduras! Samuel Jones, @jfsaracco & Fabiola Rodríguez-Vásquez 🧵(1/7) doi.org/10.1093/ornith…

Grass snowshoes - one of the avian kingdoms coolest traits.. macaulaylibrary.org/asset/204294351 eyeopening that the huge hallux of many Coucals is so often not reflected in illustrations!

Bird field guide illustrator. No matter how poor the economy is, people still demand to know that the 2nd year subadult Hilo Coast subspecies of Hawaii Elepaio has cinnamon-tinged tips to the greater secondary coverts.

intra-tropical migrations surely much more common than we currently know - very nice paper showing climate niche tracking (to wet season) across the equator!
