Iowa, elections matter. Vouchers are wrong but the great thing about America is that wrongs can be undone. The law is unpopular and will only become more so. People will increasingly see the lack of fairness in this and the damage it causes. Elections matter. Let's get to work.

Remember when we told you that the voucher bill would essentially take more money away from rural Iowa and distribute it to the metro areas? We were not wrong. Still a bad bill for Iowa. I'm still surprised how many rural legislators sold out their communities...

Make no mistake, Gov. Reynolds proposal for AEAs guts them. It doesn’t make them better or help schools. The fact that she wants to direct their funding to schools only pits public schools vs. AEAs as part of the debate.

Make no mistake, Governor Reynolds plan for Iowa AEAs is essentially a death sentence for AEAs. The loss of jobs in rural Iowa would be devastating. Republican legislators need to stand up to the Governor and vote this bill down. Approve a study of the AEAs and delay action.

This is the services that will not be available to the districts if the governor’s bill is passed. Let your legislators know this is not ok!

Read the Iowa Code for yourself. Iowa’s AEAs were NEVER intended to be “Iowa Special Education Area Agencies” alone. The code specifically calls out the provision of education services and media/technology as well. All 3 are the core mission. #ialegis legis.iowa.gov/DOCS/IACODE/20…

One last idea for tonight… pay teachers better as proposed in the AEA Bill. Scrap the rest of the bill. Add language to pull together a group to study the many factors impacting outcomes for IEP students and commit in the next session to fund and implement those ideas.

The new AEA plans put forth in the House and Senate are a continued gutting of the AEAs. Keep advocating and tell Republican leadership to scrap the plans, take next the next 6-12 months on an AEA study and include parents, teachers, administrators, AEA staff & DE.

The AEA legislation being proposed is a classic example of the Dunning Kruger Effect. Proponents of the bill are currently at the top left side of the chart (High Confidence & Low Competence). Keep advocating to stop this horrendous bill.
