I dunno. Toilets today work great and use less than half the water they used before the 1992 standard. Mixed results for shower heads and washing machines. but yes, standards have been bad for dishwashers.

The goal isn’t for materials to look new in 20 years, the goal is that they look good in 20 years. Americans all pay 10% more to get the stain-proof, fake marble countertops even if they look and feel 50% worse. We have mistaken newness/youngness for beauty.
