Popping an alert with a save button when the form is dirty makes a ton of sense because: 1. The same pattern works on mobile & desktop. Normally you have to put the save button above the form on desktop & under the form on mobile 2. It warns users when they have unsaved changes.

A global loading indicator at the top of the page solves many problems: 1. Don’t need loading states on buttons anymore 2. Same UI pattern for “page loading” and “form submission” 3. Write it once, and it works on every page going forward
