Ministers deserve better executive support. In our latest publication, the IfG explores how this can be made to happen instituteforgovernment.org.uk/publication/jo…

If the polls are right, it won't just be new ministers getting to grips with government in a couple of days... Scores of new spads will also be working out what their roles are. I've written for Civil Service World on what it feels like to be a new spad, and how officials can help👇

MRP polls have been a key fixture of this campaign. But were they right? To an extent yes - but the most recent MRPs over-estimated Labour seats, some by quite a way Follow all the action throughout the day on our Institute for Government live blog: instituteforgovernment.org.uk/live-blog/gene…

The UK's first past the post voting system has played a big role shaping this parliament. Reform and Plaid have both won the same number of seats despite 3.9 million more votes for Reform. In GB, every party but Labour won fewer seats than their share of the vote.

Labour's landslide victory has helped propel the House of Commons closer to gender parity than ever before, with women making up 40% of MPs in the new parliament. This is the biggest jump in the number of female MPs since 2015

So much great analysis from Finn, I missed this- at present, the govt's ministerial team is 50/50 male/female, almost 2x proportion under the last govt (and we're pretty sure, for 1st time ever). We may get a few more appointments, so subject to change-nonetheless, a big moment!
