There’s a breath of fresh air breezing through the hills and rocky escarpments of Basilicata, in the far south of Italy. It’s a pale blue miniature bus, a tiny, tiny vehicle loaded with books. It’s probably the smallest mobile library in the world. The driver is Antonio La Cava,

The beautiful Skarpsalling pot showcasing the art of the Neolithic potter some 5,200 years ago! The maker used white chalk paste to fill and highlight the complex decoration impressed into the clay. National Museum of Denmark 📷 my own en.natmus.dk/historical-kno… #Archaeology

John Ruskin said of Lincoln Cathedral that it is “out and out the most precious piece of architecture in the British Isles.' But it isn't just the grandiose views - the Romanesque details, like the door to the west front, are out of this world. 🚀

A beautiful Minoan ewer from Bronze Age Crete! Simply wonderful to look at the deftly painted brushstrokes applied by an ancient artist some 3,500 years ago! The painter created a dense reed type decoration with a light and dark pattern which highlights the shape of the vessel.

Hanging Stones, by Andy Goldsworthy in Rosedale in the beautiful North York Moors. Nine derelict barns have been rebuilt as stunning artworks. The six mile walk linking the barns, over rough terrain and with some tricky way-finding, is all part of the experience. Exceptional!

The Lewis Chessmen. Characterful medieval chess pieces carved with such wonderfully expressive eyes! 👀 From a large gaming hoard found near the shore on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, in 1831. Dated 1150-1200 AD. Read more about the Lewis chess pieces on these two links:

Lovely ancient cups made by highly-skilled Minoan potters some 3,800 years ago! Some cups have such delicately thin walls they are known as ‘eggshell’ ware. During the Bronze Age, these luxury ceramics were in demand outside Crete. I think they’d be popular in today’s world

Wax wings tend to eat fermented fruit and then lie drunk on the sidewalks. Wise passers-by collect them and put them in a safe place until they sober up.
