Yesterday I spent a lovely morning at Dartington Hall, introducing children from a local school to the history around them.

Then a peaceful walk …

Turn sound on for the birdsong

1/2 Today marks 249 years since the birth of artist J.M.W. Turner. We're lucky enough to hold a number of his engravings in our collection including this one of a very stormy looking Land's End. Dated 1814, it was sketched by Turner & engraved by George Cooke.

It's World Shakespeare Day! 🎭📜
'The Rain it Raineth Every Day', 1889, by Norman Gartsin shows Penzance's promenade on a rainy day. The title can be found both in 'Twelfth Night' and 'King Lear'. The composition of this painting demonstrates Garstin's admiration for Japanese art

Only one building in London is allowed to have a thatched roof — the Globe Theatre, where Shakespeare acted and plays like Hamlet were first performed.

But this isn't the original Globe Theatre; that burned down 400 years ago.

This one is less than 30 years old...
