Procter was a famous and well respected English artist from London who once had one of her paintings bought for the nation by the Daily Mail. She would later become a full member of the RA. English artist for St George's Day.

23 April 303. St George, a soldier of Cappadocian Greek origin (now part of Turkey), was executed for preaching Christianity. He was a member of the Praetorian Guard of the Roman Emperor, Diocletian. He is the patron Saint of England and several other nations.

1/2 Today marks 249 years since the birth of artist J.M.W. Turner. We're lucky enough to hold a number of his engravings in our collection including this one of a very stormy looking Land's End. Dated 1814, it was sketched by Turner & engraved by George Cooke. #JMWTurner

These important words of wisdom were uttered in 1330 by William Montagu who advised the young King of England Edward III to move against the powerful nobleman Roger Mortimer. Mortimer was then arrested and executed.
