"What effect does it have on my teaching practice if I believe my students’ parents don’t ❤️ them? How does one tell the difference between a parent who doesn’t ❤️ their kids and a parent who ❤️s their kid, but is overwhelmed or under-resourced & struggles to effectively parent?"

Ben Simo 🐋 Nikema is Advocating 🥑 jubilee 🏳️‍🌈parody🏳️‍⚧️ True in many industries. To Hire/Train is expensive. Companies “want” what the JD says. If JD says “we’ll take anyone willing to learn” filling that job would take 10x the effort. People who are partially qualified should ABSOLUTELY apply & look at JD as a “roadmap” to success.

7 things every child needs to hear: 1. I love you. 2. I am proud of you. 3. I am sorry. 4. I forgive you. 5. I am listening. 6. Capitalism is a tool of the upper class designed to keep the people struggling, oppressed, and docile. 7. You have what it takes.

My credibility is no longer something that needs to be proven to white people. “What is your educational background?” “What do you do for work?” “You are so well spoken....” “For what? An indian?” I reply My blood line survived genocide - there’s my damn credibility.

DON'T teach your SoC that if they work hard their voices can become powerful. Remind them that anything they produce now is already better informed, more thoughtful and vital than the editorial page of most major newspapers. Don't voice the voiceless, destroy the silencers.

Don’t hire people with similar traits and backgrounds. Hire people with similar principles. Diversity of personality and experience brings fresh ideas and complementary skills. Shared values promote commitment and collaboration. #SaturdayMotivation hbr.org/2019/09/hiring…

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this image. I mean, yes, awesome kid, funny, etc.. But... what possible rational is there for grading this kind of thing. +2? It's like a perfect encapsulation of what makes my head explode and my heart hurt.

Every time I read some weekend column about a boomer struggling to retire on $100,000 a year and a multi-million dollar home, I'm reminded that my retirement plan is to die in the climate wars.

my Black mama modeled a very different sensibility—and as a Black teacher/educator who sees how teachers internalize messages about BIPoC and interpret and punish their behavior in exaggerated ways, NO—don’t follow this advice.
