THE PROTESTANT VIEW OF THE CANON OF SCRIPTURE - VINDICATED - a thread 🧵 As one of the central principles of the Protestant reformation of the church was sola scripture, an object of major criticism has been the Protestant Canon of Scripture. It is accused of being a novel

“Beware of manufacturing a God of your own: a God who is all mercy, but not just; a God who is all love, but not holy; a God who has a heaven for every body, but a hell for none… Such a God is an idol of your own, as truly an idol as any snake or crocodile in an Egyptian temple”

Interesting that in 1906 the northern Presbyterian church published a prayer book called the “book of common worship”, been reading through it and it is actually pretty good.

Anyone else feel strange when finding out that a hymn you really like was written by a heretic? Apparently the hymn “in the cross of Christ I glory” was written by a Unitarian.
