I’ll be all for the Proms including pop music when the major pop music festivals include Machaut’s Messe de Notre Dame, Gesualdo’s Tenebrae or some Beethoven late quartets. And maybe we could hear such music on Radio 1 from time to time?

On Breakfast BBC Radio 3 this morning we will celebrate the life of Sir Andrew Davis, with Strauss, Elgar, and Bach on harpsichord; New York composer Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Mass for the Endangered & Heifetz plays the spiritual Go Down Moses ahead of the first night of Passover.

I know it's a sad day but Andrew Davis was a joy giver par excellence. To that end, here is the Toronto Symphony surprising the great man on his 75th birthday. This'll make you beam.
