Kristen Brennan kicking off session 2 at the TEDxSpringfield event with her relevant, enlightening speech "Land, Food, Community: Real Connections in an Urban Environment"
Last Friday a parent and her 5yr old child were trying to go to the Putnam highschool game at Central High School . They were told there was a half time policy and could not enter. About 4-5 security guards shut the gate in their faces. Spfld Public Schools Western Mass News WWLP-22News
She pleaded with the guards that her son was playing & she just wanted to see him play, also that she did not wanted to keep her daughter out in the cold for over 2hrs. No one else was @ the gate. The guards would not budge. Spfld Public Schools Central High School Western Mass News WWLP-22News
At this point her daughter was even saying, "Mommy I can't believe they closed the gate in our faces." She persisted and eventually they turned their backs and stopped responding. Spfld Public Schools Central High School Western Mass News WWLP-22News
Eventually a Spfld Police Officer intervened & asked that they allow her in & end the standoff. I find it appalling they felt the need to adamantly and w/o regard hold the line against a parent & her 5yr old child. Spfld Public Schools Central High School Western Mass News WWLP-22News
Upon exiting the game, the child asked her mother if they would be allowed to leave the game or would people block their way and keep them in. Wow. Spfld Public Schools Central High School Western Mass News WWLP-22News
I think it's bad enough we're treated like criminals when we attend games; extra scrutiny, bag searches, and pat downs. But if there's a policy in place that allows for this to happen, seems like it should be re-examined. Spfld Public Schools Central High School Western Mass News WWLP-22News
