Stenocereus gumossus grows in foggy deserts along the coast in Baja, Mexico. It is colloquially known as "Galloping Cactus" owing to its habit of long unbranched stems, sometimes 25' long, undulating along the sandy & rocky terrain. I've seen individual plants 12' tall x 30' wide

Today I took a boat to the island of La Graciosa with ecologists, and after several failed attempts, we finally found this rarity: Cynomorium coccineum. Reduced to a few specimens here on the Canary Islands in an area you need permission to access, this is a truly special find.

Aloe season is fast approaching! This is Aloe africana - an absolute beast of an arborescent #Aloe which is easily identified by it’s upturned #flowers. #succulents #plants

Probably the highest-occuring arborescent cactus on Earth, Trichocereus atacamensis grows at an elevation of 15,000' on the volcanic soils of Northern Chile near Vilacollo, close to the Bolivian Border. Also present here was a species of Pampas grass and a species of Stevia.
