Red Kites making shapes, carving their way through the air, with eyes on the prize. An incredible bird, the sound of them swooping down at high speed is incredible, spiralling and plummeting towards their food. Also a brilliant photographic challenge.

On Sunday, I spent a while studying a preening male mute swan, as he went through his whole maintenance routine, in the water, out of the water, splashing and diving, before meticulously preening out all of the old feathers. Here's a few photos from the portfolio that I took.

1/3 Yesterday was a fantastic day on the Saltees, trying to capture the ever industrious seabirds with some clinical and some artistic photograrphy, as they work hard to build and repair nests, fish to feed their young, and fight for territory.
