30 December 1460. Battle of Wakefield. Richard,Duke of York is killed after leaving Sandal castle, near Wakefield, to fight a Lancastrian army twice the size of his own. Speculation remains on the reasons why, but a major thorn in the Lancastrian side had been removed.

Among the medieval English royal documentation held by National Library of Ireland are these letters patents of Richard III witnessed by the King himself at Westminster on 16 February 1485 granting leave of absence from Ireland to Thomas Butler, earl of Ormond.
