"Why would you forego a legal safe route?" Our Afghan allies have been waiting to be relocated for well over 2 years & are still in danger. Would it really be surprising if they gave up on the 'safe & legal routes', as #ACRS & #ARAP have been so slow & dysfunctional? Andrew

A very warm welcome to the UK "Nazila" and her family, but we must not forget all the British Council Afghan teachers who are still waiting. Wishing you and your family the future you deserve after 2 years of traumatic waiting. #AtRiskTeachers

Immense bravery and resilience by Afghan British Council women teachers after being abandoned. It was clear that being a woman and having worked for the British would endanger their lives. The campaign by #AtRiskTeachers Joe Seaton has highlighted this for over 2 years. 👇

Great news for the Afghan British Council teachers relocated to 🇬🇧 on GOV.UK flights during December. They did great work for us across Afghanistan & have waited over 2 years to get to safety. Many of their colleagues remain stuck in hiding in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office #AtRiskTeachers

While its great to hear that some Afghan British Council teachers are now safely in 🇬🇧, others remain in hiding in 🇦🇫, or stuck in hotels in 🇵🇰. 'Shabana' has been hiding with her 3 children for well over 2 years now. It's time to get her to safety. Rishi Sunak #AtRiskTeachers

A year since the BBC programme 'Abandoned in Afghanistan' was broadcast, the message is still very poignant, as many Afghan British Council teachers remain stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. A very worthwhile listen Rishi Sunak Kate Ewart-Biggs paul kenyon Kate West bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

It's time to bring all these #BritishCouncil Afghan teachers to safety in the UK. They enabled #womenandgirls to access education and taught on British Council English programs which then endangered their lives as they were the faces of UK values to The Taliban. #AtRiskTeachers

Here's the British Council pledge for supporting displaced teachers. It refers to "well-being needs, recognising & addressing trauma..." Over 100 Afghan BC teachers were wrongly left behind when the Taliban took power. Many are still stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰 - they need support from BC.

Great to see British Council is keen to support displaced teachers from various countries... no mention of Afghan teachers though! What support will BC provide for Afghan teachers a) arriving in the UK b) stuck in Pakistan c) hiding in Afghansitan? #AtRiskTeachers Kate Ewart-Biggs

Such a shame to blur out Sadaf's smile in the photos! After so long hiding from the Taliban, she is relieved to be safe in 🇬🇧. She was at great risk because she taught English & 'UK-values' on GOV.UK programmes, & appeared in lots of British Council social media. Safe at last.

Afghan British Council teachers were immensely brave to teach English & 'UK-values' in the strict Taliban state of Kandahar (pictured). While some have now been relocated to the UK, approx 20+ are still in hiding in Afghanistan, with a further 25+ still waiting in Pakistan.

It seems clear that the continuing negative language and confusing position of the UK gov towards international students is having a dramatic impact on numbers and contradicts the messaging of universities and tutors that int students and academics are welcome.

British Council female English language and values teachers were regarded as very controversial by The Taliban for empowering #WomenAndGirls. Their high profile roles placed them in immediate danger. but when the Taliban took power we left them behind. Let's get them to safety.👇

Too many Afghans who worked for or closely with the British government such as #BritishCouncil #AtRiskTeachers have greatly suffered . While it is good to see that the UK policies have changed for these groups, it has taken too long with much trauma experienced and lives lost.
