Delighted to see this new Colette translation by Helen Constantine, which I copy-edited last year, in print from Oxford Classics. “The Cat” is a fascinating novella and “The Masked Woman” is a set of v interesting short stories. Highly recommended.

Very sad to hear of the death of Alfred Brendel. I first heard—& loved—Mozart Piano Concertos in his recordings with Sir Neville Marriner. Last year I shared a lift with him at Wigmore Hall and was so pleased to have the chance to say what an impact his playing had on me. RIP

Celebrating the incredible contributions to music of Alfred Brendel, who died today at the age of 94. In this tribute, a couple of unexpected early recordings (Balakirev's Islamey + Stravinsky's Pétrouchka!), as well as Beethoven Op.111 & a lecture about his life in music. RIP.
