Even going back a bit further to the sixth generation, it was a totally viable model to make a rough first game and then refine and polish the mechanics for a second game a year or two later. Now you’re lucky to have a sequel on the same console after 6+ years

As a kid playing Sacred Stones I mashed through the tutorial telling you to talk to named enemy units in order to recruit them, so I thought it was a really tragic game where you were forced to kill children

Obviously I think Sakurai should be able to make what he wants, but I really hope he takes a crack at another Kid Icarus or something new before going back to Smash. There’s no way that 6 is going to go bigger than Ultimate, so I think they could skip a gen before scaling down
