Kind version. I had some assurances about work next year that have fallen through for reasons out of my control. I've had 5 years straight of great peer and student reviews, won a press award and have 2 more books coming. I have not been idle. LMK if you know of something!

my totally unsolicited end-of-the-semester advice to junior scholars is to keep the nice notes that students write to you in a safe place so you can reference them when things get tough in the future.

I live by Columbia. Tonight I went for a walk & saw 10+ blocks rapidly barricaded, dozens of police vehicles flying by, large groups of NYPD in riot gear gathering.
I study protest in E Europe. What I saw tonight was some of the most wildly disproportionate policing I've seen
