Not to compare the brilliance of two performances but Paul Scofield (a man for all seasons) work here is extraordinary in this radio recording of the play with original director and cast. Obvs F Murray Abraham was great in the film, but for stage you need this voice.

The idea Labour could withdraw the whip from any MP who votes against winter fuel cuts is unhinged. It wasn’t even in the manifesto and no-one in July was voting for austerity. They cannot afford to be this authoritarian and expend this much capital so early on and for so little

It is long held practice amongst labourers to never turn up on the first day. We know the clever girl at the agency has many labourers secretly in reserve. And we wily labourers only ever take the reserve positions.

Saw Keir Starmer being interviewed. He compared scrapping winter fuel payments to ridding the Labour party of antisemitism. Take that ! old Fred and Mabel who were kicked out of our local Labour branch for supporting Corbyn, and now won't be receiving any.

How do you all eat m&ms? Crunch a handful at a time? Suck the coating off one by one? Or my way. Arrange in rows of the same colour and meticulously eat until you have an equal amount of each colour, then the real fun starts !

It's very rare I get to sit down, get my pens, paper, encyclopedias, scissors, felt, sellotape, audio notes, lucky drink coaster, and make a joke.

Unused audio joke notes: three dogs sat on rug. One scratching an ear, one chewing the fur on its back, the other with own tail in its maw. Punchline: Flee! No middle part yet. Thinking: a postman enters and then something?

No u-turn on Winter Fuel Payment or further help to mitigate the effect on pensioners as Starmer stands firm bit.ly/3zcFAyn If you give way on the first difficult cut you lose your authority making other cuts ten times harder. So Labour is stuck with its grave error.

Robert John Williams (@robertjohnwill7) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Labour getting dragged by everyone is it. City of London financiers say they're talking rubbish. Cutting winter fuel for pensioners won't boost investment. Maybe what's actually good for the country is not the government 'looking tough' but a healthy society, after all. Shocked

At secondary school in the mid 90s my friends and I took every Friday morning off, to hang around the local shopping centre. We made no excuses, just joined the lunch line later. The teachers loved it! A source of endless laughter. Anyway, night. Full day's labouring tomorrow.
