For the curious, the blue represents what US refugee resettlement would look like adjusted to the per capita rate of Canadian private sponsors alone. This is entirely possible, btw! I am very optimistic that US civil society could accomplish something on-par with this.

Cuts to legal aid end up costing the province much more in the long run, a conclusion backed by data and analysis. Self-Represented litigants are expensive. They're cases are more likely to go to trial and when they do go to trial they run longer and use more court resources.

Does the US have "open borders"? In my new paper, I provide the 1st-ever look at total green card requests over time. Since 1922, every year, most applicants didn't receive green cards. In 2024, just 3% will receive a green card, down from 99% in 1890. cato.org/briefing-paper…
