Watching what is going on in Taiwan makes me wish everything was simple as it was on West Wing's Hartsfield Landing episode when President Bartlet outlined a strategy over chess. @BradleyWhitford could you at least check in to make sure the Flenders are still doing OK?

54 years ago today, Tommie Smith and John Carlos performed the Black Power salute at the Olympics that outraged millions of white Americans. They were suspended from the U.S. team. They received death threats. But neither man ever apologized—and neither ever had need to.

Reading recommendation: I discovered the book Benny The Blue Whale by Andy Stanton during a pre-Christmas trip to Scotland and an currently recommending it to everyone I know. Funny, thought-provoking and brilliant. Available on Kindle now, in print in the US next month.
