To our amazing chiefs Drs. Amy Copeland, Claire Faltermeier, Yang (Frank) Lu, MD, Roxanne Massoumi, Alex Moore, and Catherine Zhu: we are so proud of you and your accomplishments! We will miss you! You have indelibly improved our program and those whose lives you’ve touched!

The most brilliant, thoughtful, and kind human. UCLA_GIMHSR is so lucky. I would encourage all UCLA General Surgery Residency Program folk interested in #HSR to get a coffee with him. Consistently pushed me me to think more deeply about my research questions during our NCSP at UCLA time together.

Inaugural chief resident debates at UCLA General Surgery Residency Program Gabe Oland and I debated lap subtotal chole vs open conversion for those tough gallbladders. Highly recommend bringing your own slide advancer/cheerleader (Terry Peng, MD, MPH) Lots of SAGES is in Long Beach in 2025! and Sharmila Dissanaike references!

My husband told me that today our 3-year old assigned him homework. She told him he had to stay home and take care of her stuffed unicorn and “feed her rainbows” while she was at school. “This is my new job” he says. There is nothing sweeter.

Husband: it's raining, where are the umbrellas? Me: I threw them all away when we lived in Portland. Husband: but it rained a lot in Portland. Me: correct.

One of the lesser known holidays occurs each year at about this time: the Chief Resident Solstice, which is when almost all residents in their final year reach a maximum in terms of f***ing being done with this s***.
