The river is beautiful today, and ringing with honks! Let's take a #BirdBreak and ID this call with our #BirdingBasics. This bird prefers sites like lawns along the edges of rivers... Can you name this bird by ear? Reply with the common AND scientific name if you know it! #RRWC

The answer to yesterday's #BirdingBasics challenge: The Canada Goose! Did you know they tend to select mates who are a similar size they are? There are 11 subspecies, and in general the geese get smaller as you move northward and darker as you go westward #RRWC #CanadaGoose

This week could be #BigNight for #Herpetofauna in SE MI! Head out on a warm rainy night to look for salamanders, frogs, and toads, or listen for their calls near wetlands and woodland pools of water. #RRWC #SpringMigration

Replace tropical milkweed with native milkweeds (bit.ly/MilkweedFactSh…) and/or native nectar plants (xerces.org/monarchs/monar…). For areas directly close to overwintering sites, native nectar plants are best. #PlantNativePlantNow #SaveWesternMonarchs

Did you know invasive zebra mussels have recently been found in marimo moss balls? These popular aquarium pets are moss-ly safe, but be sure to check yours for small, striped pests! Learn more here: michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-3… #RRWC #invasivespecies #merimomoss #zebramussels

It sure was windy yesterday! Heavy winds can blow trees right over, which can in turn create important micro-habitats for wild creatures. If you have a fallen tree that is not causing property damage or posing a danger, please consider leaving it for the wildlife! #RRWC

Grab your binoculars and go out to look for American Woodcock! These small shorebirds have a beautiful spring mating display. Catch them on calm, clear nights just after sunset in fields and prairies #RRWC #timberdoodle #scolopaxminor

With the high river levels and more rain in the forecast, we are postponing the Adopt-A-Stream days until further notice. Our volunteer's safety is of our utmost importance. We hope to get new dates out, if possible!
