Here's the weekly #drought monitor for #Alabama. I hoped the onslaught of rain last weekend would give us relief. There's some white but 54% of the state is in drought (35% last week). We can't just depend on big rains, we have to be proactive & better manage #water. #ALpolitics

Alabama Shad is my #watercolor for this #SundayFishSketch. With #Alabama in its scientific name I'm glad we share the state! It's on the decline b/c of pollution & habitat alternation (dams). In 2010 Alabama Rivers Alliance joined Center for Biological Diversity to try to make it an #endangeredspecies.

On one of the most controversial items of the past year — whether the director of ADEM is doing a good job or not — the personnel committee had a ten minute meeting with virtually no discussion.

Oh man, I was sure the deluge of rain at my house in Birmingham was going to take #Alabama out of #drought. Welp, 54% is still in drought. I know I’m a broken record, but we have to have responsible #water policy that better protects stream flow.

Thank YOU for sending your comments on the job performance of Lance Lefleur as the director of Alabama Department of Environmental Management. We're in Montgomery today to hear from the personnel committee in response to those comments. #ALpolitics

I’m so bloody tired of freshwater ecosystems being overlooked 😤. So here’s a thread about why you and everyone else should give a shit #freshwaterneedslovetoo #tellyourgrandmothertoo🏞️(1/n)

The Crystal Darter is one of the longer darters (up to 5 inches). Besides its dark saddles it is nearly translucent. It is another imperiled darter species in need of greater protection! Threats include siltation, runoff, and impoundments. #SundayFishSketch #sciart #Wildlife

Steven Dudley, staff #Riverkeeper of Coosa Riverkeeper, traveled with us to the Environmental Management Commission's meeting about the Job Performance Evaluation of #ADEM Director Lance LeFleur last Friday. Here are some of his takeaways from the meeting: coosariver.org/lefluerreview2…

Mobile Councilman Fred Richardson: "If it’s a possibility that you can catch the fish & eat it & it can harm you in any way, I believe a sign should be put up saying ‘Don’t fish in the lake.'" YES, Alabamians should have a right to know if fish are safe. al.com/news/mobile/20…

The agreement, negotiated between Alabama Power and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, includes a $50,000 civil penalty and $172,046 to compensate for the fish killed in the incident. trib.al/O56Ohfo

It is sad to see #Alabama be so soft on crime. If the State leadership believes in law and order anymore, then the least it can do is protect us from the people who kill our fish and pollute our water. #ThisIsAlabama

Today was my last day in #Alabama for Alabama Rivers Alliance. I got to work with some of the best people I’ve ever met—on some of the most important issues I’ve ever seen. I’ll always appreciate the state, the people, & the rivers. Thanks to everyone! Now I’m headed to Defenders of Wildlife in DC.
