A chachalaca at the National Butterfly Center in Mission, TX. Chachalacas are commonly seen throughout the Lower Rio Grande Valley and into Central America. While their appearance is subtle, their boisterous calls can be heard for miles.

After two and a half months of traveling by boat, bike, horseback and foot at times, reaching the end of the journey where the Rio Grande enters the Gulf of Mexico brought on a flow of emotions. What a special day at Boca Chica!

A wild Heather Mackey, spotted in her natural habitat. The Rio Grande Valley is a stellar place for birdwatching, particularly in the spring and fall. Situated at the convergence of two major migratory flyways, this area is a hotspot for witnessing unique bird activity.
