A society that celebrates its colonial history with statues in its major cities but refuses to include the atrocities its empire committed abroad in its school curriculum is lying to its people on an industrial scale.

Working class history isn’t taught and working class people don’t chose who we celebrate in the mainstream or through education. Who would you elevate to memorialise? Whose stories should we tell?

As well as learning about Scotland’s pivotal role in Empire, should also learn about great struggles and figures often brushed aside from our history. From John Maclean to the Timex strike, the objectors to WW1 and Scots who joined International Brigade against fascism in Spain.
