Ed Lachman on the Team Deakins podcast dropping hot takes. He uses Babygirl as an example here but it applies to so much contemporary cinematography. The whole episode is fantastic.

Wow I loved this. Unbelievably charming and emotional. Somehow contains both a great prison break sequence and one of the best romances of the year. The type of movie that would get nominated for Best Picture in 2009. So glad I saw this in the theater

ROOFMAN: 2025’s single most undervalued film, and the blame can be placed squarely on the marketing. What’s pitched as a goofy romp is actually something much more tragic and heartfelt, bolstered by exceptionally strong work from Tatum, Dunst, and Cianfrance. Really terrific.

It’s fucked how the classic 30s/40s disney films have such mid to low scores on lbox. If you study the history of animation you’ll realize just how fucking insane those films are and it really recontextualizes everything! Like nooo one was storytelling like that.
