Using the tax-free SARS exemption of R34,500 for >65yrs, you can invest R353,800 tax free in a 5yr RSA Retail Bond at 9.75% interest (R244,100 <65yrs). Considering the risk in markets, this looks like a pretty good deal to me. Double your money, tax-free, in 7.4 years.
