Avar had all the arguments right there at the ready, sparking in her mind as she kissed Elzar. He drew back, gasping a little. “Avar,” he whispered. “Elzar.” Their names could be enough in these shadowy close quarters.

“Elzar sat in the chair and leaned his elbows on the cold desk. She always contacted him immediately upon returning to Republic space. She said it grounded her and gave her a soft goal that never changed from mission to mission; he knew it was to calm him down.

When they were young, she’d assumed their destiny with the Force would be the same. Or at least run parallel. They’d be together in it, forever. She was starting to believe that again. The pull to him, the need for him—it couldn’t be wrong. It didn’t feel wrong.

“Sounds like it’s ramping up. You want to put away a few glasses of whatever they’ve got? I wouldn’t mind dancing, either. Should we go dance, Jedi Master Elzar Mann?” He wondered what she thought of the look he was giving her just then. If she might be drowning a bit, too.
